Hi Skippers,
What a close and tactical afternoon of light wind sailing for the 15 skippers. The “Classic ” yachts were on show with 4 x TS2’s, a Cockatoo and the AKA fleet.
Great tight sailing in good humor. It certainly was a game of inches. Craig Wiley #02 took the 1/2 time lead and he had a target on his back from then on. Derick Warne #97 had his eagle eyes on and was consistently picking the breeze and holding his nerve. The fleet of TS2’s were at times match racing which was fun to watch. John Halloran and I were back markers in the 7 H’cap races so we saw it all up the course in front of us.
All afternoon the breeze was 2 to 5 knots from the SE trying to go East. All 6 buoybots worked perfectly and with the new pull ties on the keels we won’t be losing any in the future.

Thanks to all of our IOM fleet for a fun and very enjoyable afternoon. We filled the scoresheet with 15 sailors.

Hi Skippers,
Top of A rigs all afternoon for the 10 IOM sailors competing in the Heat 5 of the annual Club Champs H’cap racing series.
The breeze was South to SE around 10- 16 knots all afternoon which gave the skippers heaps of pressure on the windward and downwind legs. 5 buoybots were used with a top mark and clearance mark and a bottom gate.
Tony Silver started with a 3rd place in the 1st race and then suffered rudder issues and had to share Geoff Morris’s #96 IOM for the later races. He still managed to pip John Halloran #83 with his V8 in the odd race. Geoff Wilson #25 with his TS2 showed great speed all afternoon. He has bragging rights over Tug boat Phil. !!!
Picking the wind shifts on the windward leg was key.
Doug Turner had great speed but jib sheet issues cost him dearly in the final results.
Thanks to Craig Wiley for assisting in the first couple of heats then Bill Heritage took over the start box and RO duties. Job well done guys!!!

We are up to 64 entrants in the IOM Nationals Champs on our way to a max of 80 competitors. We have decided on making a Classic division for older yachts and this has been received well by all clubs.
WOW this event is going to be huge for the club.

8 DF65’s on the water today despite the initial weather forecast of showers. As the morning progressed the sun came out & the rain clouds disappeared. A bit chilly for some but overall a good morning. A+ rig conditions all morning.

Geoff Morris RO’d & scored the day – in an attempt to reduce the number of incidents & to ensure penalties are done when they should be.

Highlight of the morning : Well done Craig #370 who won the day with 22 points with good consistent racing including one race win & 5 x 2nd places. Doug #64 had 3 race wins & ended up with 25 points. 3rd overall was Kim Mitchell #42 with 2 race wins & 26 points. Well done to the podium dwellers. 6 different race winners – only 5 points separated the top 5 boats.

Thanks to all skippers for missing the potholes & wet areas on driving on the point. Thanks to Tony for trailer duties.

Hi Skippers,
We finally had a blue sky and sunshine afternoon but the 6 – 12 knots West to SE wind was a little chilly. 12 sailors enjoyed a very tactical afternoon of close racing. The wind shifts were massive (some 30-40 degrees ) and getting it right was very tricky.
We had a visit from Andrew Wilson the buoybot guru from Brisbane with his VISS #16. He won the day but his scores were deleted for our club sailscores results. Thanks Andrew for sailing with us and sharing your knowledge especially with the buoybots.
Working the correct shifts was key and Geoff Wilson #25 and John Halloran #83 were doing just that. Doug Turner showed great speed with his “woody” #82 and sailed into 3rd place.

14 boats on the water – 13 racing in glorious sunshine, a decent breeze albeit a bit chilly for some…no rain! 10 scratch races with 6 different race winners.

Highlight of the day : has to be the long awaited return of Brian Wiley #408 missing in action for 3+ months – welcome back & well done with a 4th overall. Well done also to Owen Finlay #490 for a credible 3rd overall including a race win.

Thanks to the volunteers at our two day DF95 regatta held over the weekend – 20 boats raced with 9 from our Club…. a very successful event thanks to Class Coordinator Roger Frith & his team.

Next major event we are hosting is the 2026 IOM Australian Championships incorporating our annual Eddie Cowell IOM Regatta 19th to 23rd August – 55 entries already . If anyone would like to help out please let me know asap.
Next DF65 racing : Saturday 27th June – Scratch racing. Weather forecast looks wet 🙁but we will see.

Hi Skippers,
Sorry for the late results but I had a subject information night at my son’s school and I’m just home.
The morning patchy showers cleared away and the 12 IOM sailors were greeted with sunshine and a shifty SE to East wind around 6 – 12 knots. 4 bouybots were used and the start line and top mark was adjusted during the 1/2 time break to keep the sailing fair.
We welcomed Craig Wiley our Rear Commodore to our IOM fleet with his yellow V8 IOM number #02. A very good looking yacht and boy it has some speed as well. Some very close racing and tight finishes with the bunched fleet. John McAulay and Derick Warne mastered the conditions all afternoon and were hard to beat. Geoff Morris starting off a 40 second h’cap was always playing catch up until Derick passed his h’cap on heat 9 and ended on 50 sec. Tony Silver was up the front of the fleet on many races at the last bottom mark rounding and then played the shifts on the last leg. Sometimes chockies – sometimes boiled lollies.

About time we had a different weather forecast – seems to be the same lately – 14 knots SE, showers etc.

Firstly : Many thanks to all DF65 skippers for parking in the car park once again due to the wet & muddy condition of the point – I understand some of you being disappointed that other classes aren’t following suit recently, me too. . Looking after the point is very important to ensure we adhere to our SCC Land Permit… without it we have a problem.

9 DF65’s raced 10 handicap races in the 1st Round of our Winter Handicap series – good A+ rig conditions, only one brief shower despite the grey clouds shooting overhead.

Highlight of the day : Although it was handicap racing this morning with top guns like Kim #42 & Michael #45 working hard on high handicaps ie 50 & 60 seconds to catch up with the front end of the fleet we still had 5 different race winners including Tony, Owen & Richard. Well done guys.

Hi Skippers,
The early rain cleared and the sun came out for the 8 skippers enjoying the afternoon of scratch / h’cap sailing. The Southerly wind of around 10 knots went SE and then a little East with gusts up to 15 knots and lulls of 3 knots. We had a few skippers experience boat issues today which is quite out of the norm.
Geoff Wilson #25 turned up with flat boat and transmitter batteries so he decided to be RO for the day and did a great job. Dave C- Dobing #12 had rudder servo issues and missed a few races trying to work out the problem. Bill Heritage #59 is usually very reliable but today his rubber servo stopped after the 3rd race and then Bill became the cheer squad.
Setting the early pace was Geoff Morris #96 and that continued throughout the day and he won the day by a big margin. Hot on his heels was Derick Warne #97 winning 3 races. John McAulay # 164 sail number was very consistent and ended on a tiebreak with Phil Gray #147 on 24 points. A super close afternoon of sailing.

We ended up using the std. moored buoys as buoybot #2 developed issues and we could easily set the correct course with the dinghy.

Hi Skippers
12 DF65’s this morning for our DF65 Revolution Cup – 5 scratch & 5 Handicap races. One skipper had switch issues before racing & another floatation issues so 10 on the water.
Due to the heavy rain we had overnight we all parked in the car park to prevent churning up the sodden grass. Thanks to all for their cooperation & understanding…. I know it’s a pain but we have to take a responsible approach to looking after the point or potentially risk losing our right to park there at all.
Apart from a slight shower we had sunshine & a pretty reasonable breeze. Started on the western side but changed to the eastern course after our mid morning break as the breeze went from SSW to southerly.

Visitor Lex O’Connor #77 from Victoria raced with us today getting 30 points after discards ( inc two wins ) – his result does not show on the above results but would have come 5th .

Highlight of the Day : Nothing special this morning apart from good friendly & highly competitive racing in good conditions. … which is kind of special in my opinion !

Thanks to Geoff Morris #96 & Phil Gray #239 for assisting with the recovery of Robert C’s sinking DF65 – getting the rescue boat on the water in time as the boat was filling up with water with only the bow/sails above the water. They both get average points for missing a race to help. Thanks Guys !

At last Batteries are back in stock – that’s the second time Aust Post have lost my battery order in recent months… strange as I don’t get any issues with my other deliveries. Anyway if you need a new Life battery I have stock in my car.

Next Session : Tuesday 16th June – Winter Handicap series .
There will be NO DF65 racing on Saturday 20th June as our DF95 fleet have two day regatta over this coming weekend.

Hi Skippers,
All morning I was hoping for the morning rain to clear being glued to the rain radar.
It turned out to be a great afternoon for IOM sailing with light South to SE winds and clear sky’s. The sun broke through so it was T-shirts and shorts for the afternoon.
I started the day off needing to rescue my IOM when the rudder servo packed up. My dramas continued when the winch was intermitted. One moment working and then for no reason it would stop working. I couldn’t even start the first race so I then ran the start box and shore sheet for the day.
All 9 skippers enjoyed the first round of our Winter H’cap series. Gosh it was close sailing and very tactical with working the light breeze and keeping your focus. Geoff Morris #96 , Derick Warne #97 and Garry McMahon #57 managed to work it out and shared the first 3 places.
David C-Dobing #12 was a very consistent 4th in 5 of the 10 races. This didn’t effect his h’cap but also didn’t get him on the podium. A very enjoyable afternoon with light wind sailing.
