Hi Skippers,
A very tactical and close afternoon of IOM sailing with the 11 skippers enjoying the smooth water and gentle 3-5 knot SE to East breeze.
We were joined by Mark Beneke #164 and Steve Duggan #73 from Bundaberg. Both skippers have entered in the IOM National Championships and were keen to get in some practice.
Kim Mitchell was a suprise spectator who came along to watch the action and ended up scoring and running the start box for the afternoon. Thanks so much for your help !!
The light winds and H’cap system kept the sailing close all afternoon.
The top 3 places were separated by only 1 point. WOW!

All 6 buoybots worked perfectly and we could adjust the course as the wind slowly dropping off during the later heats.
The afternoon was full of concentration trying to find the new breeze as it came over Nicklin Road.

Hi All
A decent 5 – 6 knot breeze that was mostly Southerly – despite overnight rain the morning was initially cloudy with a chill in the wind but nice when the sun eventually came out. 12 DF65’s on the water all with A+ rigs… only a few bingles with penalty turns mostly done as they should be.

Highlight of the day – goes to all 12 skippers for a fun, well mannered, well attended race morning – probably one of the most enjoyable I’ve experienced ! Well done to the top 4 for good close racing.

A beautiful day on the Lake – sunny, blue skies & a tricky 6 to 9 knot breeze – shifting from SW to SE & all point in between at frequent intervals. 10 boats on the water all with A+ rigs – 10 races completed.

Highlight of the Day goes to Kim Mitchell #42 for taking out 5 race wins – total points 15. Closely followed by Mark Burdon #275 with 3 race wins and 17 points, interesting duel with Craig Wiley #370 coming 3rd on 20 points. Well done guys.

Hi Skippers,
It was a really nice afternoon with blue sky and sunshine.
The 5 knot breeze was swinging from South to SE all afternoon with puffs and lulls. This kept all 5 skippers on their toes.
It was D Day today!!
Derick Warne was unstoppable taking out 6 of the 10 heat wins. Well sailed!!
Doug Turner #82 had his “woody” in tune and finished in second place. Geoff Morris #96 had water in his yacht which meant he took on RO duties until the sun dried out the bilges. He was back after 3 heats. He then wrestled with Derick and Doug for the rest of the afternoon.

Hi Skippers,
Where were you all????
We had 4 skippers on the water with blue skies and a good 18-20 knot South to SE wind. It was a fun afternoon and a good warm up for the Nationals.
The 4 skippers who sailed were on B rigs and boy was it fun!!
By heat 4 it was tied between Derick Warne , Doug Turner and myself. Tony Silver was the only consistent sailor all afternoon.
After heat 9 Doug and Derick had 1 point between themselves going into the last race. Tony was determined to beat one of them or both in the last race. That would throw the results wide open.
Doug beat Derick in the last race so their points were tied. Their result went to a countback. Doug eventually got the upper hand over Derick.

3rd Derick Warne #97 16 points (on countback)

Today’s forecast was fairly accurate – 18 knots increasing (SSW going S) which we reached in the gusts – only 6 DF65 skippers fronted this morning all with B rigs on plus warm jackets as there was a definite chill in the air. Today was the first round of our Winter Scratch series.

Highlight of the Day – goes to Brem Hill #496 & Doug Turner #64 both on 18 points with Brem taking out the day on countback. Just proves nice "gentlemen" can race well with minimal incidents ! Really well sailed in a small but competitive fleet ( all skippers had at least one race win )

Thanks, guys, for turning up & participating in such conditions – it was fun …..would have been tempting to stay in a nice warm bed ! Thanks also for parking in the Carpark & preserving our grassy point.

Hi Skippers,
What a cracker winters afternoon with blue sky and sunshine. The light Easterly winds 2-5 knots provided plenty of lifts , knocks and holes so the 12 sailors had to be on their toes.
We were joined by Ben Harvey #63 from Brisbane, with his TS2. His results have been removed from sailscores.
Super close sailing all afternoon. A couple of noted performances.
Derick Warne #97 started heat 7 with a 50 second time adjustment putting him dead last across the line. He picked the wind shifts perfectly throughout the heat and managed to win that race. Very well sailed!!
In heat 8 Craig Wiley #02 and I started on 45seconds time adjustment. We crossed the line side by side and at the top mark we were still side by side. Rounding the bottom mark we both sailed to separate sides of the course for the long windward leg. At the top mark we were again side by side. The last 2 legs were challenging as there was only 1 meter between us. Tach for tack it came down to the finish line. A bow bumper was the difference in the final result. Well sailed Craig !!
The H’cap system certainly kept the finishes close.

Hi Skippers
The Lake was absolutely stunning this morning – not a cloud in the beautiful blue sky, the mirror like water was picture perfect and no ****ing wind. We did a dummy race which was a drifter most of the time then boats came off the water & we chatted until 10.55 am when a whisper of sea breeze got us racing. We did one lap races & managed to squeeze 8 in our time slot. 10 boats arrived – 3 deciding not to bother. Good fun helped by the usual banter – good to have Tony back !
Brem – just to let you know the breeze came in just after you left !

Highlight of the day goes to Geoff Morris #96 for actually racing a whole session ( all 50 minutes of it ) & winning 5 out of 8 races.

Reminder : 8th & 9th August is the 2026 DF65 Queensland State Championships – Paradise Radio Yacht Club, Emerald Lakes. 3 club members already entered in the 39 strong fleet…

Hi Skippers,
A really nice afternoon of light wind sailing with the blue sky and sunshine for the 11 skippers.
We were joined by Mario # 04 from Victoria who is here for 1 month on holidays.
He won the day but his results were dropped from the sailscores Club scoring.
It was a close afternoon of sailing with the 3 -5 knot wind moving for South to SE and then to the East. Lucky we had 3 buoubots so we could adjust the start line and bottom mark. Derick had a very good day with many podium places and won the day. Geoff Morris suffered a job boom failure but lucky for him he had another A rig in the car and we was quickly back up and racing. John Halloran #83 suffered a rudder servo issue on the last race and his yacht sailed itself all the way to the buildings on the other side of the lake.
Doug Turner and I had to launch the dinghy and use the brand new outboard for the first time. We could only do idle to 1/2 throttle so it took a while to get to John’s yacht. All good in the end as John could get to his Christmas in July party night at Montville. Thanks Doug for your help and to the helpers onshore to put the dinghy back on the trailer.

A beautiful morning at the Lake despite the ‘interesting’ wind initially 3 knots SW going Southerly then SE. 8 boats on the water – only 22% of our 36 boat fleet but still good competitive fun.

Highlight of the day : goes to the 6 different race winners including Robert Hunter #792 & Wayne Jacobsen #65 . Five points separating the top 4 boats. Kim #42 took 3 race wins giving him the overall lead on 20 points. He is leading the series by 7 points.
