10 boats on the water – most starting with A+ then moving to A as the morning progressed so I’m told.

Jon Evans from Victoria #39 is visiting the coast for a few weeks & joined us today – John’s scores are not included above however he scored 23 points after 2 discards so would have come 3rd if included. Well done Jon.

Highlight of the Day : well hard to say as I was missing in action ( trapped nerve – right hip 🙁) so all I can say is well done to Mark Burdon #275 , Tugboat Phil Gray #239 & Jon Evans #39 for consistent racing.

Thanks to Tony Silver for running the morning for me – much appreciated . I’ll be back on Tuesday.

Hi Skippers,
After a week of intense IOM sailing with the IOM National Championships held by our club it was quite relaxing to be at the lake with our regular IOM fleet. The sun was out, breeze was 3-5 knot NE and the sailing was very close all afternoon.
We were sailing into the “Death corner” but it made it possible to make gains or have a lose if you didn’t get the wind shifts right.
Geoff Morris with his new Pikanto was showing us all just how fast this design is and he was going to be hard to beat. In the end scores were tied between 2nd and 3rd, 4th and 5th and 6th and 7th place. That shows just how close the sailing is getting.

It was a very enjoyable afternoon of social IOM sailing.

I huge THANK YOU to all our sailors and club members who helped out running a very successful IOM National Championship . The traveling sailors all were incredibly impressed with the high standard we showed in staging this National event. There were many cogs in the admin wheel and all people did their best which contributed to a very smooth run event. The media coverage on YouTube, Facebook and What’s App with photos, videos and even drone shots was quite mind blowing. This is a new area I’m learning about.

Thanks for the team effort in packing up the buoybots and flags. Thanks to Tony Silver for picking up the trailer.
See you all on Saturday for our normal IOM sailing.

It was good to be back at the Lake after a week off for the IOM Australian Championships our Club hosted. What an event that was !
7 boats on the water this morning – no wind to start, then a slight breeze came in , went NW , died and went NE. Usual struggle with a NE Course but we just managed to get 10 races in our time slot.

Highlight of the Day : goes to Craig Wiley #370 for a very consistent performanve – 6 race wins, one 2nd & the rest 3rds giving him 11 points in total ,10 points ahead of Kim in second place.

Hi All
This week our Club is hosting the 2026 Australian IOM Championships, this event incorporates our annual Eddie Cowell IOM Perpetual Trophy regatta.

This 5 day event starts on Wednesday 19th with Registration & Measuring followed by a practice session for competitors. In the evening we have a ‘Welcome Meet & Greet’ at the Kawana Surf Club, 99 Pacific Boulevard, Buddina starting at 6pm. All club members are welcome to attend – finger food provided, drinks at your cost.

Racing starts on Thursday at 10am & follows through to Sunday afternoon. We have 64 IOMs entered which will give us 4 fleets. It’s going to be a highly competitive event & worth calling in to watch if you have time.

Many thanks to our 26 club members who have volunteered their time & expertise to make such an event possible.
Our normal scheduled fleet racing resumes on Tuesday 25th August.

Usual story – 5-6 knot SW breeze initially that soon went Southerly & increased to 8-10 knots with 12 knot gusts at times.
We had boats with A+, A & B rigs – most ended up on B. 6 boats on the water – one visitor with a new boat not shown on the score sheet.

Highlight of the Day : Again Kim Mitchell #42 won the day with 5 race wins – followed by Doug Turner #64 who took out the winter series by 1 point.
Next Tuesday 18th : As we have the IOM Australian Championships from Wednesday 19th to Sunday 23rd next week I need to be running around finalising a few things so will cancel DF65 racing unless we have a volunteer to run it – there will be no Buoybots that day as they will be getting prepared for the Nationals. Unless you hear from me Tuesday will be cancelled – anyone wanting to run the morning ( Winter Handicap series ) please let me know asap.
Next Saturday 22nd August – definitely no DF65 racing as there will be 64 IOMs on the Lake that day. Sorry guys – back to normal on Tuesday 25th August.

Hi Skippers,
We arrived at the lake to find strong gusty S Westerly winds ideal for B rigs. I rigged up and 1/2 an hour later not only had the Council pulled the plug on the lake water level but the winds abated so we all changed to our A rigs. The tide dropped heaps throughout the afternoon. No Gumboots need !!
We had 13 skippers sailing including Richard Machin from Victoria. Super close sailing all afternoon with only 7 points between the top 6 places.
The H’cap adjustments kept the fleet close especially at the finish line.

Hi Skippers
At 7am this morning there was a gentle 2 knot SE breeze – nothing like the forecast but very picturesque !
Just after 9am it went SW & started to increase ( & increase ) … by the time we started it was gusting 10-12+ knots. Off came most of the A+ rigs & the majority put on B rigs…. 2 out of 7 participants stayed with the larger rigs.
Within a few races everyone was on B’s as it was almost impossible to tack with A+’s … by the time we finished it was pretty hard to tack even with B’s !

Highlight of the Day : well as you might know I never include myself in this section but today is the exception – I’m happy to say I won the day – I have been on a mission to improve my performance in recent weeks – a continual struggle ! As you can see it was close with good competition especially between myself, Tug Boat Phil & Doug Turner – lucky for me they both started with A+ rigs but that was their choice ! I’ll take any advantage I can 🙂

It was a good fun racing with running commentary on various skippers dilemma’s throughout the morning – I enjoyed it anyway.

Hi Skippers,
It had a summer feel down at the lake for the 9 skippers IOM sailing in the 7th round of our Meter Cup series. Blue sky and a gentle 3 – 5 knot SE to Easterly wind. Another close afternoon of IOM sailing. After heat 6 there was 1 point between 6 sailors. The last 4 races ( 2 h’cap / 2 scratch ) were full of tactics and holding your nerve was key. Geoff Morris managed to win the last two scratch races with his Cockatoo 8. Well sailed !!
We had a visitor from WA Cliff Davis #33 who is here for the IOM Nationals. Cliff would have won the day but his results have been removed from the club score system. Thanks goodness!!

Another beautiful morning at the Lake – a reasonable SSW breeze that increased nicely & went southerly then SSE. 11 boats on the water which was good as we had 3 regulars that have ventured down to Paradise RYC on the Gold Coast for this weekends Qld DF65 State Champs ( Craig Wiley, Mark Burdon & Tony Silver ).

Visitor Andrew Young #79 from Gladstone launched his new DF65 this morning but unfortunately had battery issues . Many thanks to Andrew’s better half, Sue who "volunteered" to score the morning – fantastic job Sue , nice to have a scoresheet I can read clearly. You are both welcome anytime !

Highlight of the day : well… it wasn’t a highlight it was the opposite – too many bingles, mainly at the top & bottom marks where mark room wasn’t given when it should have been – unfortunately one sailor got targeted too often & justifiably wasn’t impressed !

*** In radio-controlled yacht racing, mark room is governed by World Sailing’s Racing Rules of Sailing (RRS) Part 2, Rule 18. The most essential principle is that if two boats are overlapped as the first one enters the "4-boat-length zone" around a mark, the outside boat must give the inside boat enough room to sail to and safely round the mark without touching it. ***

Hi Skippers,
A really nice afternoon of IOM sailing for the 12 skippers with blue sky and sunshine. The breeze hovered from 3 – 5 knots from the SE and East so all skippers had to be on their toes.
We had 2 guest skippers joining us for the afternoon:
Ben Harvey #63 and Michael Bourke #01 Thanks for sailing and being a part of the afternoon. I have encouraged both to join the SCRSC so their score count in the IOM fleet.
John Halloran #83 took and early lead and hung on to win the day ahead of myself and wait for it DAN SILK #07 !!! Well done Dan !!!!!!!!
Thanks to Kim Mitchell for again scoring the afternoon and running the start box. I like the fact that his wife plays bridge and he is free. Much appreciated !!
