DF65 Summer Handicap series – Tuesday 17th March

Hi Skippers
We were greeted to a SW 3 knot breeze which was supposed to go SE 8 knots but actually died during our first race. This was shortened to one lap otherwise we would still be out there.! The following races saw a slight improvement allowing us to get in 10 handicap races with 9 boats on the water .

Highlight of the Day goes to the 3 podium dwellers – Michael Hickman winning the day convincingly with a mere 15 points ! Then Doug Turner with a consistent performance – 1 x 1st, 2 x 2nds, 2 x 3rds giving him 2nd overall with 28 points – then Chris Wood #933 on 30 points. Chris was one of the 3 founding members of our DF65 class back in 2023 – welcome back Chris & well done today.

A big thank you to Brian Wiley for not sailing but instead he RO’d, scored and mastered the Buoybots all morning … a job well done & very much appreciated.

On Thursday 5 DF65 skippers ( Mark Burdon #275, Craig Wiley #370, Kim MItchell #42, Nick Taylor #917 & myself ), head off to the DF65 National Championships – this is a 3 day event with 58 entries , being held on Grahamstown Dam near Newcastle. The Club also has 4 DF95 skippers ( Craig Wiley, Nick Taylor, Kim Mitchell & Nick Taylor ) entered into the DF95 Nationals being run straight after the 65s.
While I am away Tony has volunteered to step in & run this Saturday’s & Tuesday’s racing – subject to the weather which is looking "wet’ 🙁 I will text out as usual.

Have a great week
Cheers
Mark
