Hi all,
It really did not look like Radio Sailing weather at 9am this morning but we gave it a couple of hours and the Weather gods obliged with the sky’s clearing and leaving us with a dry afternoon with some variable conditions.
Winds started Easterly with maybe 4-6 Knots before gradually moving South Easterly during the afternoon and by race 4 the wind had increased with a couple of skippers chaning down from A to B rigs as some strong gusts caused a few nosedives, however, after a couple more races the wind dropped back to a more manageable 5-10 knots for the rest of the afternoon.
Given the morning weather and the forecast of showers for the afternoon it was great to see 11 boats on the water for the second round of the 2026 DF95 Scratch Championship – in the end, the showers kept away and we had an excellent afternoon’s sailing.
Heat wins were shared equally between the 3 overall podium positions with each taking 3 a-piece and John Lemberg picking up the remaining heat win (using a B rig when the wind was at its strongest).
Nick Taylor had a quick start to the day taking 3 wins and a second from the first 4 heats and then held on to the overall lead for the rest of the day ending up just 1 point ahead of Derick Warne who had great comeback from a couple of dropped races to take second place. Roger Frith made amends from a bad start to the day by taking the last 3 heat wins of the day to climb back up to third place.
Thanks to Tony Silver for bringing the trailer and returning to Mark’s and thanks to Craig Wiley for RO’ing and scoring for the second half of the afternoon.
Thanks also to those who were able to park in the carpark for the afternoon to avoid causing any damage to the grassed area.
Next Race day – Wednesday afternoon – 2nd round of the DF95 Handicap Championship from 1pm.
