DF95 Race Results – Wednesday afternoon – Sunshine Coast Radio Sailing Club

Hi all,

First race of the DF95 Summer Handicap series this afternoon with 9 skippers in attendance. Beautiful afternoon with Sunshine and NE winds around 5-8 Knots (with the normal shifty stuff) but overall pretty good.

10 x Handicap races were the order of the day and trying a new handicap system borrowed from the Lasers to see if we can even up the field. All scratch for the first heat and then +20, 15 & 10 for the first three places in each heat on the day but Handicaps will reset to scratch for each subsequent race of the series.

We had hoped that this new system would slow Derick Warne a little but no luck there! He had the highest handicap all afternoon but still kept hitting the front and with 3 heat wins he ended up on 21 points to take the overall win on the day. Going to have to get harsher still with the handicaps! Having said that, the afternoons racing did create some very tight finishes on the finish line as the handicaps worked themselves out.

Tied on points for second place where Jeff Rice and Roger Frith on 25 points with Jeff taking second on countback.

Our thanks to Craig Wiley and Phil Armstrong for assisting with the scoring after their boats picked up some gremlins along the way and thanks to all assisting with recovering and washing the Buoybots – fastest we have done it yet!
