DF95 Summer Scratch Series, April 26th – Sunshine Coast Radio Sailing Club

Howdy Sailors!!

After a couple of days of dodgy weather forecasts, 7 DF95’s turned up on a glorious Sunday afternoon for an excellent session of Scratch Racing in the penultimate round of the DF95 Summer Scratch Series.

A very steady 10(ish) knots gusting up enough for yours truly to swap to the B rig for 7 of the races. Was that a good choice? Yes and no. I was able to get a good mix of 2nds, 3rds with a 4th and 5th thrown in.

A couple of Main and Jib halyards leg go in the breeze causing a DNC or two, along with a multi level rudder failure on 985 (good lesson for having a rudder servo ready to go straight in the boat handy!)

The lead swapped 4 times with Derick Warne and Nick Taylor fighting it out for a chance at the Summer Series tim tams. Derick eventually wrestled the lead from Nick and won with a score of 11, 6 points clear of Nick, all gained in the final 4 races where Derick won 3 and Nick suffering some main winch issues. Jeff Rice got a solid 3rd with some consistent sailing, and Craig “B Rig” Wiley not far behind in 4th. (Hey – if I get to write the blurb, 4th gets a mention!)

Very friendly sailing today, on a fair course and an excellent breeze. It’s what one design sailing is all about!
