Constitution Objectives
The Constitution of the Sunshine Coast Radio Sailing Club (SCRSC) (Link Below) sets out thirty-two rules which define the processes by which the SCRSC will be managed. The Constitution has been approved by the Office of Fair Trading in accordance with the Associations Incorporation Act 1981.
As to be expected with a formal document the majority of the rules are designed to set out how the SCRSC is required to function, the Membership classes, fees, rules and rights of members (Rules 4 to 10). How the SCRSC will be managed, the processes, powers, authority and limitations of the Management Committee. (Rules 11 to 18).
Further, the Constitution establishes the timing and processes to be followed in the initial and subsequent annual and general meetings of the SCRSC; the By Laws and financial management of the Club. (Rules 19 to 30).
The Constitution contains explicit instruction on the process to be followed if the SCRSC should be wound-up in accordance maintaining not for profit requirements. (Rule 31).
RULE TWO – OBJECTIVES. Sets out the primary objectives of the SCRSC’s constitution. To establish the Club to provide radio yachting facilities for members and to maintain these facilities at an operational standard. The SCRSC provides a forum for discussion on the technical aspects of design and operation of radio yachts. The Constitution goes further to stress that it is not just the technical aspects of radio sailing that are important to the SCRSC and its members.
The SCRSC aim is to encourage and promote interest in the sport of radio yachting but to do this, where possible, incorporating family and outside social activities in conjunction with radio sailing. It is envisaged that the Club will provide an atmosphere of friendship, positive social interaction, excellent sportsmanship and the fun and enjoyment of radio sailing.
The majority of the SCRSC members are at or near the retirement age. Keeping an active body and mind and avoidance of social isolation are important considerations for seniors. Participation in a non-contact sport provides an opportunity for physical mobility. Radio sailing has the advantage of being easily adaptable to different levels of physical capacity.
Keeping an active mind is equally important set-up and maintenance of the yachts requires the sailor to attend to the complexity of the equipment and importantly the rules under which we sail. The internationally promulgated Racing Rules of Sailing (RSS) is long and complex. Most of the rules under which ìbig boatsî sail also equally apply to radio sailing. Additionally, radio sailing has its own appendix in the RSS.
The Constitution establishes the values in which radio sailing will be conducted that of honesty, integrity, care, courtesy, compassion and consideration, including support for the Member Protection Policy which ensures that all are treated equally and fairly.
The SCRSC aim is to foster a culture of “fun first and competition second”.
