Hi Skippers,
It had a summer feel down at the lake for the 9 skippers IOM sailing in the 7th round of our Meter Cup series. Blue sky and a gentle 3 – 5 knot SE to Easterly wind. Another close afternoon of IOM sailing. After heat 6 there was 1 point between 6 sailors. The last 4 races ( 2 h’cap / 2 scratch ) were full of tactics and holding your nerve was key. Geoff Morris managed to win the last two scratch races with his Cockatoo 8. Well sailed !!
We had a visitor from WA Cliff Davis #33 who is here for the IOM Nationals. Cliff would have won the day but his results have been removed from the club score system. Thanks goodness!!

Good to see Paul Newman #60 back sailing after his OZ camping trip around Australia. Thanks heaps to John Halloran for scoring the afternoon and running the start box. A great job!

Another beautiful morning at the Lake – a reasonable SSW breeze that increased nicely & went southerly then SSE. 11 boats on the water which was good as we had 3 regulars that have ventured down to Paradise RYC on the Gold Coast for this weekends Qld DF65 State Champs ( Craig Wiley, Mark Burdon & Tony Silver ).

Visitor Andrew Young #79 from Gladstone launched his new DF65 this morning but unfortunately had battery issues . Many thanks to Andrew’s better half, Sue who "volunteered" to score the morning – fantastic job Sue , nice to have a scoresheet I can read clearly. You are both welcome anytime !

Highlight of the day : well… it wasn’t a highlight it was the opposite – too many bingles, mainly at the top & bottom marks where mark room wasn’t given when it should have been – unfortunately one sailor got targeted too often & justifiably wasn’t impressed !

*** In radio-controlled yacht racing, mark room is governed by World Sailing’s Racing Rules of Sailing (RRS) Part 2, Rule 18. The most essential principle is that if two boats are overlapped as the first one enters the "4-boat-length zone" around a mark, the outside boat must give the inside boat enough room to sail to and safely round the mark without touching it. ***

Hi Skippers,
A really nice afternoon of IOM sailing for the 12 skippers with blue sky and sunshine. The breeze hovered from 3 – 5 knots from the SE and East so all skippers had to be on their toes.
We had 2 guest skippers joining us for the afternoon:
Ben Harvey #63 and Michael Bourke #01 Thanks for sailing and being a part of the afternoon. I have encouraged both to join the SCRSC so their score count in the IOM fleet.
John Halloran #83 took and early lead and hung on to win the day ahead of myself and wait for it DAN SILK #07 !!! Well done Dan !!!!!!!!
Thanks to Kim Mitchell for again scoring the afternoon and running the start box. I like the fact that his wife plays bridge and he is free. Much appreciated !!

A beautiful sunny day, blue skies & the lake looking very picturesque – light breeze ranging from 0 knots to 3 knots and fluctuating from Westerly to SW to SE to NE … 12 boats on the water – only got in 9 races but reasonably enjoyable !

Highlight of the Day : was consistency ! Well done to Tug Boat Phil #239 for winning the morning with 3 race wins & 7 races out of 9 in the top 3. Then Michael #45 3 points behind & Kim #42 with no wins but only one bad race coming 3rd.
We welcomed back Dave Woodmore #38 who had a day off to come sailing – work is overrated & gets in the way of hobbies !

Hi Skippers,
What a close afternoon of IOM sailing.
We had our first 3 way tie for 1st place between Doug Turner #82 , Derick Warne #97 and Phil Gray #163. Each of the skippers were tied on 19 points. It all came down to the last heat of the day. So so close !!!!
My day was over before it even started with transmitter issues but that gave me the chance to be RO for the afternoon. What an exciting afternoon with A rig conditions with the odd 15-18 knot bullet to test out all skippers. Mostly it was 8 -12 knots of breeze from the SE.
9 skippers were ready to sail but with me retiring that left 8 to contest the afternoon. Dan Silk #07 was really improving throughout the afternoon and got himself on the podium in heat 6. Well done!! Doug Turner managed to win 4 heats which gave him the overall win for the day. Great sailing!!

Hi Skippers
One of those mornings when I could easily have stayed in bed – overnight rain, chilly & not so good forecast but on getting to the lake you decide to go ahead & it turns out to be the right decision !
11 DF65’s on the water – initially on the eastern course with 7 – 8 knots SW , A+ rigs initially but when the wind went SSE most changed to A’s with a couple on B rigs.

Highlight of the day was the battle between the top 3 – Craig #370 won the day on 15 pts ( pays to have a cheer squad helping you along ) , Mark B #275 on 22 pts & Tug Boat Phil #239 third on 25. Good sailing guys.

Hi Skippers,
A very tactical and close afternoon of IOM sailing with the 11 skippers enjoying the smooth water and gentle 3-5 knot SE to East breeze.
We were joined by Mark Beneke #164 and Steve Duggan #73 from Bundaberg. Both skippers have entered in the IOM National Championships and were keen to get in some practice.
Kim Mitchell was a suprise spectator who came along to watch the action and ended up scoring and running the start box for the afternoon. Thanks so much for your help !!
The light winds and H’cap system kept the sailing close all afternoon.
The top 3 places were separated by only 1 point. WOW!

All 6 buoybots worked perfectly and we could adjust the course as the wind slowly dropping off during the later heats.
The afternoon was full of concentration trying to find the new breeze as it came over Nicklin Road.

Hi All
A decent 5 – 6 knot breeze that was mostly Southerly – despite overnight rain the morning was initially cloudy with a chill in the wind but nice when the sun eventually came out. 12 DF65’s on the water all with A+ rigs… only a few bingles with penalty turns mostly done as they should be.

Highlight of the day – goes to all 12 skippers for a fun, well mannered, well attended race morning – probably one of the most enjoyable I’ve experienced ! Well done to the top 4 for good close racing.

Highlight of the Day goes to Kim Mitchell #42 for taking out 5 race wins – total points 15. Closely followed by Mark Burdon #275 with 3 race wins and 17 points, interesting duel with Craig Wiley #370 coming 3rd on 20 points. Well done guys.

Hi Skippers,
It was a really nice afternoon with blue sky and sunshine.
The 5 knot breeze was swinging from South to SE all afternoon with puffs and lulls. This kept all 5 skippers on their toes.
It was D Day today!!
Derick Warne was unstoppable taking out 6 of the 10 heat wins. Well sailed!!
Doug Turner #82 had his “woody” in tune and finished in second place. Geoff Morris #96 had water in his yacht which meant he took on RO duties until the sun dried out the bilges. He was back after 3 heats. He then wrestled with Derick and Doug for the rest of the afternoon.
