Hi Skippers,
A big fleet today with 13 yachts competing in our Hybrid scratch / H’cap racing series.
All skippers were on A rigs with good 10 – 15 knot SE winds which made for a very close and tight afternoon of sailing. We tried and windward and leeward gate course which seemed to work well. 3 scratch races started the day off followed by 5 H’cap heats and then 2 scratch races to finish.
In the scratch races all skippers were sharing the podium places. For the H’cap heats it was Phil Gray #147, Geoff Wilson #25 and Doug Turner #82 sharing the podium places. Doug’s new strip plank timber IOM is a piece of art and gosh is it quick. During one heat Doug ended up sailing Jason McAulay’s yacht as he was unsighted and ended up sailing the wrong boat. We’ve all done that. Geoff Wilson and Phil Gray were having a real ding dong battle between themselves which was good to watch.
Derick Warne #97 sailed well but had to leave at 1/2 time and ended up at SCUH Hospital in emergency with stomach pain. Wow how someone’s day can change. A hope all is well Derick!
Congrats to the place getters:
1st Geoff Wilson #25 22 points
2nd Simon Kellett #58 29 points
3rd Jason McAulay #161 32 points

With such a big fleet it is important that all skippers do the right thing and do their penalty turns if you infringe. It is important to do the right thing for the sake of all skippers and their enjoyment.
Thanks to Bill Heritage for helping score and run the start box when his yacht developed an issue. Thanks to all who helped pack up the bouybots and dinghy.
See you all on Tuesday for our Summer series H’cap racing.
Happy sailing,
Simon K
