Hope to see you at our Season opening on Australia Day 26th January- details of which will follow in early January.

CONGRATULATIONS

Two of our best DF skippers have just competed in the 2025 DF95 National Championships ( 29th Sept to 1st October ) in Adelaide – Nick Taylor & Niko Leluan came a very credible 3rd & 4th respectively which is an amazing result bearing in mind the number of very experienced & talented DF95 skippers in the 47 strong fleet. Well done Boys ! Next : they both race in the DF65 Nationals starting on Friday 3rd October

Laser Qld State Championships

On Saturday 21st June SCRSC hosted the 2025 Qld State Championships on Lake Kawana.

SCRSC Local Niko Leluan is the new Laser 2025 Queensland State Champion !

15 entries in total , 6 from Paradise Radio Yachting Club on the Gold Coast & 9 from host club, Sunshine Coast Radio Sailing Club (SCRSC).

All skippers started with B rig as the wind shifted from SW to SSE. With a number of minor course changes skippers enjoyed a reasonably steady breeze with average heats of approximately 11 minutes.

An interesting battle developed between the 2023 & 2024 State Champion, Daniel Bergan  #147 & one of SCRSC’s top guns Niko Leluan #277 – each having a number of turns at the top of the leaderboard throughout the day.

Mid afternoon the wind reduced slightly – Daniel quickly swopped his B rig for his A rig, next race Niko also changed – ironically the wind then came back & both skippers quickly reverted to B rigs. The battle continued keeping spectators on the edge of their seats – unfortunately there had to be a winner which was local skipper Niko by three points over Daniel after 19 races. Niko secured 7 race wins to Daniels 4 . 3rd place was Richard Kingsmill #365 from Paradise & 4th Derick Warne from SCRSC. Interesting to note that Niko & Richard are both new to RC Laser sailing, Niko even using a borrowed boat.

Thanks to all competitors for being part of the Championships – a very friendly & cordial atmosphere making it fun for all. Many thanks to the 10 strong Volunteer team from SCRSC, as usual a very well run event .

Well done Niko – excellent result for you & the Club.
